Ben Stein is Expelled

I am more and more impressed with Ben Stein. Now he has made a movie that insists that people think critically instead of blindly following tradition. If we did not think critically we would still think the Earth was flat and we would still be living in the Dark Ages. Open your mind. Question everything. Weigh the answers that are presented to you as fact or truth.

See more about Ben’s movie here at the official Expelled web site.

Russell H. Conwell

Russell H. Conwell was the founder of Temple University. The story is very inspiring. However, before you read that, you should read this:

Acres of Diamonds
By Russell H. Conwell

Here are some excerpts:

“When that old guide had told me that very sad story, he stopped the camel I was riding and went back to fix the baggage on one of the other camels, and I remember thinking to myself, “Why did he reserve that for his particular friends?” There seemed to be no beginning, middle or end — nothing to it. That was the first story I ever heard told or read in which the hero was killed in the first chapter. I had but one chapter of that story and the hero was dead.”

“…and he said another thing I would not forget: he declared that a diamond is the last and highest of God’s mineral creations, as a woman is the last and highest of God’s animal creations. I suppose that is the reason why the two have such a liking for each other.”

Once you have read “Acres of Diamonds”, read this synopsis of How and why Russell H. Conwell founded Temple University.

Find out where you stand, Politically

Do you always know exactly where you stand on political issues and which political leaders most closely agree with your views? If you are like me, you do not have the time to do all the research required to completely understand all of the issues and all of the leaders and candidates.

Fortunately there are some organization out there who do have the time. Here are three:

(I have taken this quiz several times. I think that one problem with these types of quizzes is that everyone has a different understanding of the definition of the same topic. Many people are agree on the same things but do not even realize it because they are each saying it a different way. Here are the details of my results.)

Here are 4 candidates which Glass Booth matched me with:

  1. Ron Paul 83% similarity
  2. Duncan Hunter 70% similarity
  3. Fred Thompson 69% similarity
  4. Mike Huckabee 66% similarity

VA Joe.com (Thank you Heather Duncan)

Here are 4 candidates which VA Joe matched me with:

  1. Mike Huckabee 84.62%
  2. Mitt Romney – 84.62%
  3. Fred Thompson – 84.62%
  4. Tom Tancredo – 80.77%

Apparently I am a Mike Huckabee fan, at least when it comes to political polarization. Although, I have not been impressed with him as an individual much yet.

Here is one to help you keep track of what is going on in our Congress:

I have added all of these to my “Political Links” on the main page of my blog for your easy reference.

If you know of any other good (concise and hopefully unbiased) sites, please let me know about them.

I have a plan to destroy America

“If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that ‘An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.’ Here is how they do it,” …

This is a very interesting speech. Read Dick Lamm’s plan to destroy America. It is a very good and worthwhile read. I think Dick is right on. I would love to hear your comments on his speech.

(Here is Another Version of the same speech. Here is the verification of this speech on Snopes.) Thanks to Samuel Farnsworth for bringing this speech to my attention.
